Abraham Hicks: The 5 Steps To Alignment

Abraham Hicks is one of the single most influential teachers of The Law of Attraction. Channeled by Esther, Abraham’s message is very simple: when you align with the energy of your desires, they will manifest easily and effortlessly.

In this post we’ll take a look at what Abraham means by alignment and the five step system to align with source energy in any circumstance.

What Is Alignment?

Before we get into the details of the 5 steps, it’s important to understand what, exactly, alignment is.

There are many ways you could describe alignment, but the easiest way to think about it is to think of alignment in terms of how you feel. When you feel good about a subject, you are aligned with that topic.

Your state of alignment can change from moment to moment, and from subject to subject. You can feel nervous about money but confident in your physical health, for example, or you might feel empowered after you achieve a goal, but disempowered when yet another problem surfaces.

You can also think of alignment in terms of inspiration. It isn’t just feeling good, but feeling ecstatic, or wonderful, and you enter into a state in which the actions flow naturally and you always seem to know the next best step to take.

Science calls this a state of flow, and is the feeling of being “in the zone.” Abraham refers to this state as inspired action.

If you understand how The Law of Attraction works, you could also think of this state of inspiration as being at the same vibrational level as your goal, so you are, quite literally, operating in vibrational alignment with it.


How To Align With Source Energy in Five Steps

Abraham doesn’t just explain what alignment is, but also offers a clear path for you to learn how to align with source energy in any circumstance.

There is a simple 5 step system.

Note: originally, Abraham’s path of alignment included only the first three steps, so you may come across older teachings and recordings that omit steps 4 and 5. The last two steps were added more recently as an extension of the same ideas.

Step 1: You Experience Contrast

The first step in the process is the act of experiencing contrast. Contrast, according to Abraham, is any negative experience you encounter.

As you live your normal life, you always find things you do not prefer, or have ideas about how your life could be better. Whether you express this desire as a complaint or a wish, it represents your natural expansion and desire for growth.

This step happens automatically, every day of your life, even when you are not aware of it.

Step 2: Source Answers Your Request and Creates Your Desire

The second step in the process is not your responsibility.

Whenever you have a new desire, source energy answers your request immediately. Abraham teaches us that there is a vortex of energy that holds everything we could ever want or imagine, and simply by thinking of a goal, or a wish, we create the equivalent manifestation of that goal in the vortex.

You do not need to do anything in order to have your desires fulfilled. They are already fulfilled immediately, as soon as you can think of them.

Step 3: Align With The Vibration of Your Desire

Your job, then, is simply to align with the energy of that desire. This is step three, and is the challenging part for most people.

To align with your desire, you must put yourself into a positive state of emotion, in order to allow the desire to come to you. There is no effort or strain necessary, and in fact, the more you struggle against what you don’t want, the harder it is for you to achieve what you do want.

As you learn to relax, trust the process, and flow with the natural current of energy in your life, you will be led, step by step, to the manifestation of everything that you want.

Alignment simply means that you enjoy the process, and appreciate the state of not having what you want as much as you appreciate the desire itself.

Step 4: Maintain Your Alignment Consistently

The first three steps, by themselves, are sufficient for you to manifest anything you desire. Steps 4 and 5 are about learning to live in a constant state of alignment and connection with your source energy.

As you begin to taste the power of alignment and recognize how synchronicity will manifest your desires for you, the next step in your awareness is to begin to live more consistently from that state.

As you appreciate your desires more fully, and relax into the process of alignment, you will find you will begin to maintain your alignment more consistently, and will begin to know quickly whenever you step our of alignment.

In other words, in Step 4, you shift your priority to feeling good, all of the time.

Step 5: Appreciate The Contrast

Lastly, Step 5 is the recognition that even your negative experiences are, in some way, supporting your growth and develop.

For most people, negative situations trigger negative emotions, but when you truly learn to master your energy, you can see that while you will always have new desires, preferences, and occasionally will still have complaints about your current environment, you will see even the negative aspects as a blessing, which can help to point you towards a more positive scenario.

When you live from Step 5, you live in a complete state of trust with the universe, confident that you live in a benevolent world, and everything is always working out for you.

  1. You got me when you said that it’s important that you have a positive emotion to make sure that your desires will come to you. To be honest, I am not satisfied with how my life is going right now. There are things that I can’t get in order to be happy, and I can’t figure out what’s wrong with me. Since I don’t really know how to keep my emotions positive and stable, I will surely find a book about vibrational alignments.

      Just chill a little more and understand that those negative emotions are all part of things working out for you, be easy on yourself, always! Those negative emotions are there for you to realize what you really want in life, its just about practicing feeling good one moment at a time, you are love, you are joy, you are abundance you are you and you is pretty amazing! What you want is already there for you, just take the decision to live happily ever after and soon you will see that you are already on your path! Take care of the way you feel and everything else will follow you! Thats the only thing that you have to do, allow yourself to feel good and you will see how easy it all is!

      Please read “the power of Now” by Ekhart Tolle and “Ask and it is Given” by Abraham Hicks (Esther and Jerry Hicks). Then also read “A return to Love”!by Marianne Williamson. “The path to Love” by Deepak Chopra… these books have helped me tremendously. I hope they do the same if not more for you! Oh and check out the Vortex by Esther and Jerry Hicks

    Yes, “I love when I win the lottery” for example:
    Even this positive statement is keeping winning the lottery in the future.
    So I now enjoy the feeling of “Oh my G… I’ve won the jackpot!”
    Or “I’m now in the house, home I’ve dreamed of. I’m enjoying being here, sitting in this space, in my home.”
    Just to say we’re in the process of moving from an inherited house, so this is up front in my mind and heart.

    I have heard Esther say these 5 steps many time – your description of them landed differently for me this time . I had never thought of Strp 2 in the way you put it – Source creates what you want, your desire, in vibrational form. Now you know what it feels like all you have to do is to keep lining up with the feeling of that desire. It’s like Scouce taking a photo of the desire and all you have to do is match and mirror that photo.

    Thank you, this was great – laid out in an easy to understand way. I’m somewhere between stage 3 and 4, I think. It really does get easier to think good-feeling thoughts and I’m wanting to think like like this more and more. I only recently discovered, and now am hooked, on Abraham’s rampages… and coming up with my own is becoming second nature.

    So. What about that I Feel aligned, I can see and am aware of the fluxuations of the consistency in the last two steps but I am beginning to wonder about free will and choices and what if asking and preferring and living in these feelings of alignment are NOT happening because of the thing she said about how we decide what we want to experience before we are born?! Am I wanting to have experiences that I have decided prior to the lifetime Im in that I don’t want to experience those types of things?! How is it that over and over again, there are just super cool fun signs and feeling good and having the best days and then theres more contrast and I notice that I don’t stay there long in my diappointment or my grief – although true the loss of my dads and my husband in a row were more than my mind could digest so that grief thing is not a quick fix but still I KNOW I am doing VERY Well and yet the experiences I have ordered are now YEARS old and what gives?! Like I say, I think its that I have preplanned this lifetime experience in a way that I ordered contrast that would serve me but it would be an awful trick to not KNOW that I had already decided against what I now see I would like to experience. What is your opinion?
