The throat chakra also known as Vishudda, is located in the throat and extends from the shoulders to the ears. It is associated with the element ether and the color light blue.
The 5th chakra in our seven chakra energy system holds our authentic expression, communication, and uniqueness. It is the bridge between our intellect and our emotions.
When the throat chakra is in balance one easily respects others’ truths, finds acceptance and appreciation for themselves, is confident in themself, has an open mind, and speaks their truth.
Physical Symptoms
Vishudda controls the thyroid gland, vocal cords, gums, tongue, jaw, shoulders, ears, and teeth. When the throat chakra is out of balance it can take the form of asthma, hearing problems, coughing, and bronchitis.
Losing your voice, ear infections, sore throat, mouth ulcers, TMJ, tight shoulders, and neck pain are also physical symptoms of a blocked throat chakra.
Emotional Symptoms
When the throat chakra is out of balance emotional symptoms that can arise include poor listening skills, lack of confidence, and shyness. It also includes self-judgment, feeling rejected, social anxiety, and fear of public speaking.
A throat chakra imbalance can also present itself as creative blocks and feeling unsatisfied within the career.
Oversharing, manipulation, aggressive language, lying, belittling, searching for validation from others, and having a closed mind are other emotional symptoms that can arise.
Balancing The Throat Chakra
With the throat chakra directly linked to the larynx or voice box, sound is an extremely powerful tool to open the throat chakra. Practicing singing, making music, or listening to throat chakra healing music as provided below can bring your throat chakra into balance.
Sound Healing
You can listen to sound healing music before an interview, while meditating, while cooking, or in the background of an important conversation to support a healthy expression between everyone’s throat chakra.
Incantations
Incantations are similar to affirmations but are more powerful according to Tony Robbins. The difference being when using affirmations, you are telling yourself to be happy and incantations are commanding yourself to be.
Incantations are more effective when using the full spectrum of emotions in your voice and body language that you would feel as if this were coming true to you right in this moment.
Essential Oils
You can use essential oils to balance and heal the first chakra. To do so dilute one to two drops of the oil into a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil.
You can simply rub this into your hand and breathe in the aroma or you can incorporate it into your pranayama practice. You may also wish to diffuse these oils in an essential oil diffuser, but if you have animals make sure to check if they are toxic to diffuse around them.
