The third eye chakra also known as Ajna, is located between the brows in the middle of our forehead. It is associated with the element of light and the color indigo.
The sixth chakra in our seven chakra energy system holds the bridge between our logical mind and our intuitive mind. It is the place for us to decipher the truth and see beyond illusion.
This chakra guides us to see beyond societal programming and instant gratification. It reminds us to trust our instincts that go beyond the limited rational mind. This chakra is associated with clear sight and visualizations.
Ajna rules the brain, eyes, pineal gland, and pituitary gland. An imbalance or blockage of this chakra can take the form of headaches, dizziness, poor vision, seizures, and lack of concentration.
It can also show up as brain problems such as difficulty processing information, memory issues, and anxiety. Included in this are hearing problems, insomnia, and learning disabilities.
Emotional symptoms that can show up when the third eye chakra is blocked include feelings of paranoia, issues focusing, having a closed mind, and being stuck in either rational or intuitive thought processes.
Nightmares or hallucinations may also arise from a blockage in the third eye. Lacking trust in one’s intuition or being gullible is another sign the third eye needs to be balanced.
Feeling mentally exhausted, in a fog, or struggling to differentiate between reality and the imagination.
Balancing The Third Eye
Increasing intuition is one way to begin to open the third eye. This can be done through mindfulness techniques such as increasing your perception of smell. This will begin to open your awareness to the more subtler undercurrent of energy that surrounds us.
To balance the third eye chakra one may listen to sound healing music, meditate to awaken the intuition, use visualization techniques, practice memory stimulating games, follow their intuition, or use color therapy
Sound healing music that resonates with the sixth chakra energy center can be played while cleaning, meditating, showering or even while working.
Through the law of entrainment, you will begin to harmonize with the frequency of the sound. All the benefits that exist within matching the vibrational wave of this chakra will easily come to you.
You can use essential oils to balance and heal the first chakra. To do so dilute one to two drops of the oil into a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil.
You can simply rub this into your hand and breathe in the aroma or you can incorporate it into your pranayama practice. You may also wish to diffuse these oils in an essential oil diffuser, but if you have animals make sure to check if they are toxic to diffuse around them.
