Meditation Script – Finding Joy in the Present Moment
Take a few moments to come back to your breath. To draw your attention inwards. To find space, stillness, peace, and joy.
As you explore this feeling of joy-bliss-love-light, the key is to begin always in this moment.
This statement may sound obvious, but, often, we overlook the simplicity of it. We spend so much of our time thinking about things that aren’t actually happening. We relive the past and worry about the future, forgetting to be present, right now.
Our preoccupation with past and future even extends into our meditations. Even as we begin to tap in to a higher sense of joy and peace, even as we feel into an awe-inspiring sense of stillness, connection, and oneness, the feeling appears fleeting.
Consciously or not, we do not believe we can sustain it. We do not believe we could feel that peaceful, that joyful, and that loving, all of the time.
So, we become distracted. Sometimes it’s a thought about your day. Sometimes it’s a question about whether or not you’re ‘doing it right.’ It could be anything.
These ideas are symptoms of not being present in this moment. Even if you are thinking about only a moment ago, or only a moment from now, but that other moment, is not this moment.
You have, right now, everything you need to become aware of your energy. To find stillness within you.
Can you find that space, right now, if only for a moment?
A single moment.
A breath.
A pause.
That’s it.
If you can find stillness for one moment, you can find it again, and again.
Gradually, that moment will lengthen. It will seem to stretch, to linger, if only for a few seconds.
Do not worry if it appears to slip away. Just reset, re-focus, and repeat.
Find, once again, a single moment of peace. A single moment of joy.
Approaching your practice in this way makes it easy and straightforward. Now, you have two more tools.
You can gradually increase the time you spend in that space.
You can increase the frequency with which you stop to find it.
As you do, a single second of peace will become two seconds, and then 10 second. A brief glimpse during meditation can become a few seconds every hour.
Eventually, you can learn to take every action while remaining centered in this space.
But, it always begins with your decision in this moment.
So, once again: stop, reset, and find joy, right now.
