What Is Mirror Work?
Mirror work is all about integrating affirmations in their true nature of potency. When we say affirmations to ourselves in the mirror and to ourselves many things happen. First, we begin to become aware of any resistance we have to this affirmation.
First, to break down affirmations, affirmations are the process of affirming something to yourself. Our self-talk and self-dialogue is an act of affirmations as well. Byron Katie says:
“A thought is harmless unless we believe it. It’s not our thoughts, but our attachment to our thoughts, that causes suffering. Attaching to a thought means believing that it’s true, without inquiring. A belief is a thought that we’ve been attaching to, often for years.”
Since what we are thinking repetitively turns into a belief, it is important to conscious work with what thoughts we think This is why working with positive affirmations is so beneficial.
When using a mirror in affirmational work you don’t only become aware of resistance to saying things, but you can become aware of where you are holding low expectations of the world, yourself, or your life. Find a list of Louise Hay affirmations here.
When doing mirror work you begin to shift your inner dialogue into your friend through this process. At first, this process of standing in front of a mirror and looking at ourselves can feel entirely uncomfortable but after some time, it can become fun!
Mirror work doesn’t just include affirmations. As stated above our entire self-dialogue is affirming perspectives to us. When something hard happens you can go to the mirror and speak an inner dialogue of support to yourself.
Another thing that happens with mirror work is when we see ourselves say something we can then more easily visualize and adopt our affirmations as our truth. This means that mirror work manifestation is incredibly powerful as it can help boost your visualizations which help you work with the law of attraction.
Neville Goddard teaches how important visualization is for manifestation. You can learn some of his techniques here with a list of free PDF Downloads of his books.
