Named Sahasrara in Sanskrit, also known as the crown chakra or the seventh chakra of the chakra system. This chakra holds our infinite wisdom unbound by the human condition and our spiritual connection.
How Do Chakras Become Blocked?
Chakras can be understood as energy centers that are gathered around the midline of the body and work their way up the spine. They gather around major organs and can be visualized as small vortexes of energy within the body that also radiate their energy outwards about one foot.
The chakras encompass the emotional, physical, and spiritual layers that correlate to that specific chakras purpose. Each chakra holds a different aspect of our psyche as well as has different elements and physical organs associated with it.
The chakra system works similar to a river segmented into seven sections. If one section becomes clogged it will affect the water flow within the other sections of the river. Each chakra can become blocked by suppressed emotions, fears, and holding onto what we need to let go of for our evolution.
Louise Hays, an author of many books such as Heal Your Body A-Z and You Can Heal Your Life, wrote these on the concept that our thoughts and emotions are what creates disease within the body. She goes to explain how negative emotions manifest within the body and work as a mirror to reflect back to us what is going on within our inner world.
The chakra system similarly works as a mirror into our emotions and beliefs around what the energy that chakra represents. We can look into imbalances and pain within the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual bodies and trace it back through the chakra system to the chakra it correlates with and find ways to heal it
Symptoms Of A Blocked Crown Chakra
When the seventh chakra is blocked it can present itself within the brain, hair, nervous system, pineal, pituitary, and hypothalamus gland. Imbalances can manifest as headaches, migraines, neurological disorders, nerve pain, or hair loss.
Serious physical problems related to the crown chakra are brain tumors, memory loss, Alzheimer’s, cognitive function problems, or epilepsy.

Emotionally crown chakra imbalances can manifest as feelings of disconnection such as depression, anxiety, or indecisiveness. This includes feeling lonely, unmotivated, or struggling to find meaningfulness.
This can also be ignoring intuition, doubting yourself, feelings of victimhood, and resistance to being fully in the present moment. Of course, this can take the form of fearing the future or being stuck in the past.
Not being at peace with your idea of the bigger picture is a blockage as well. This includes following a faith you don’t resonate with, following a religion that restricts your personal happiness or having negative views on how life works.

What Are The Gifts Of An Open Crown Chakra?
When the crown chakra is open and strong we feel at peace within our belief system. We will feel connected to a source of higher power (i.e. the universe, god, universal love) and will feel we are living with a higher purpose.
In the way, some yogis speak of breathing as an act of devotion and that every breath is meaningful by the way we are receiving life by breathing and giving it back by exhaling, feeling sacredness in life is a gift of a clear crown chakra.
Having an open mind and seeing through illusions is related to the gifts of this chakra. Feeling connected to life, others and nature are included in this. Dissolving the ego and feelings of true and steady bliss permeate through an open crown chakra.
The crown chakra is also related to gaining information from extrasensory perception. This means perceiving the even more subtle layers to life. Click here to learn how to expand your extrasensory perceptions and see auras.
How Can We Balance The Crown Chakra?
To balance the crown chakra connection to the spiritual body will be directly beneficial. This includes receiving a reiki session, meditation, self-reflection, chanting and dream journaling. Learn more about the benefits of chanting.
If religion is part of your spirituality this can include prayer, going to your place of worship, or reading scriptures. Another way to support the crown finding its happy harmony is by practicing grounding techniques.
This creates a strong foundation within our root chakra and allows our crown chakra to be able to expand like the branches of a tree when the root system is strong. Techniques to ground the root chakra are through visualization or by spending time outside with your bare feet in the earth.
